JEREMY
THE PUNY. . . a fantasy chapter book for the 8 to 12 year
old crowd. Jeremy tells the story of a young boy, a city kid,
whom
his mom
calls "a sidewalk kid" and his struggle to adjust
to living in the country.
Jeremy is unpacking in his new home when a violent thunderstorm hits.
After the storm he thinks he sees an eagle's nest that has fallen
into his overgrown backyard. He goes out to investigate and discovers
that the nest is actually a dragon. The dragon pleads with Jeremy
to come with him. He claims to be in dire danger and needs Jeremy's
immediate help. Jeremy reluctantly climbs on and is whisked away
to a strange land to become a pot washer for an inventor witch.
Jeremy and another kidnapped pot washer, Fiona, encounter one adventure
after another, as they try to escape from the witch and make their
way safely back home.
Exerpt
from "Jeremy
The Puny"
"So,
thought Jeremy, it wasn't even safe to think in this horrible
place. How could he stop thinking? Was it possible to
stop thinking? It seemed, no matter how hard he tried, he still
thought about escaping. He looked over at Fiona, who had just
about completed cleaning one small pot. She had had it
half completed when he arrived on the scene. He had no idea how
long she had been working on it. He looked at his pot.
It was mostly coated in black tar."
